I even created my own folders, sub folders and links on the desktop, then moved them to the appropriate Start Menu path within Explorer, and they instantly appeared! No sign out, restarting explorer necessary. I only have a handful of programs that exhibit this specific behavior that is easily fixed by moving out the folder and putting it back all at once. Some form of race condition exists where StartAllBack is not actively seeing newly created folders and sub links if a program installer is slowly creating those Start Menu folders incrementally. Not sure if you could just add stuff, though, since the rest of the program wouldn't come with the addition, so doesn't help the problem that way. This is very similar if not identical behavior in regard to what I wrote in my post earlier above in this thread by "manually" moving and placing back the existing folders that would not appear in StartAllBack. StartAllBack will now show your missing program folder.Īlso you shouldn't have to uninstall and re-install StartAllBack anymore, as this appears to be a bug that the developer has to fix.Īnother way I figured out how to deal with this problem is to go into C:\Program Data->Microsoft->Windows->Start Menu->Programs and just manually edit it at will! I did that with some stuff and after just signing out and signing back in again my changes were there in the Start Menu and had no problem with execution. Now move it back to its original location. StartAllBack requires something to be inside a folder before the folder is placed in one of the two Start Menu locations.Ī very easy fix I discovered is to locate the missing Start Menu folder within: StartAllBack seems to ignore newly created empty folders. There seems to be some kind of race condition where if an empty folder is created first in either of the two Start Menu directories, BEFORE contents are added to it, which would be icons and shortcuts, then StartAllBack fails to display it in the Start Menu. You should in fact see that although StartAllBack does not list the folder (or root program icon) in your Start Menu, the folders are present in the above two Start Menu directories I mentioned earlier above. I mention the two above folders because this is where you need to look for your missing installed programs.

They will still display on your Start Menu if they are in either location. This though doesn't matter or affect how StartAllBack displays newly added programs.

The above locations depend on whether or not the installer is installing the application for ALL USERS or just the current user. I have that problem too, but it is relatively easy to fix for each missing entry.Īll Start Menu programs get installed to one of two directories:Ĭ:\Users\takeahike\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Start MenuĬ:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu
